A texture panel becomes easier to place when its repeat is defined before borders are added. The border should solve edge and layout needs rather than hide an unexplained remainder. Count the whole panel deliberately.
Separate panel and border counts
Write the texture repeat width, number of repeats, and stitches reserved on each side. For example, four repeats of six stitches create a twenty-four-stitch center before borders. Keep seam allowances or special edge treatments outside that count if they are not charted.
Check the vertical transition
A texture may need a complete row sequence to finish cleanly. Decide how the panel begins and ends rather than stopping at an arbitrary row count. Use your measured row gauge to estimate height and check where surrounding shaping occurs.
Swatch the combined fabric
Borders and textures can behave differently in width and curl. A center-only swatch may miss how the edges pull or flare. Include representative borders, wash as intended, and review whether the panel lies and stretches as required.
- Keep the key explicit for wrong-side rows.
- Record all non-charted edge instructions.
- Measure after the fabric has relaxed.
Draw one texture repeat in the maker, then build a small combined chart with the intended borders and compare the complete swatch.
